Joachim Robbrecht works in theatre as director, author and sometimes as an actor. He graduated 2006 at the director department at the Amsterdam School of Art and before that accomplished a study in literature and linguistics in Ghent. His work is characterized by a layering of speech, movement and visuals. The re-appropriation of repertory texts and historical facts through radical adaptation is a recurring feature in his work, that often has a satirical touch.
His work has been honored with the Ton Lutz prijs (2006) and Charlotte Köhler prijs (2011). Besides of his own initiatives, Joachim Robbrecht often collaborates with fellow director Sarah Moeremans and other theater makers such as De Warme Winkel, Wunderbaum, Andcompanyandco and choreographer Bruno Listopad. He also works as a tutor at ArtEZ, Arnhem and occasionally as a guest teacher at toneelschool Maastricht.
